The Crust Hauling Drones

The Crust hauling drones move goods when a belt is the wrong tool: long gaps, messy pits, overflow. Wiki.gg Buildings names a Drone Reconfiguration Module and a Hauling Drone Reconfigurator. How many drones per module, battery time, and 1.0 carry limits are not published — verify in 1.0.

Drones are not Mk.5 belts. Keep a belt between the first extractor and the first refinery; use drones to jump what that spine cannot reach.

What the Steam pitch actually says

1.0 copy: automate factories with conveyor-and-drone lines above and below the surface. Both exist. The wiki snapshot only named the reconfiguration buildings, not a full drone tech tree.

Read that as: you will unlock a module that turns a drone into a hauler (or retasks it). Until the 1.0 tooltip says otherwise, place the reconfigurator near power and near the job, not in a dead hallway.

The snapshot does not explain how they differ. Do not invent “Mk.1 vs Mk.2.” In 1.0, open both tooltips and believe those verify in current build.

When to use a drone instead of a belt

Use a drone when:

• The pit is messy and a belt would clip habitat.
• You need to hop a level and the elevator is not worth it yet.
• Overflow is killing a Mk.1 spine you are not ready to upgrade.

Keep belts when:

• The path is a straight extractor → refinery.
• You are still in the first hour and have no spare power.

What this page will not specify

Carry amount, flight speed, how many haulers per reconfigurator, whether they need a colonist Engineer. None of that is on wiki.gg. Making up a “4 drones per module” rule would be fiction.
